Abstract

1458472 Multi component fibres TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 5 April 1974 [5 April 1973] 15294/74 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] The fibre comprises (A) a fibre forming polyester and (B) a copolymer which may be removed easily (e.g. by dissolution) from (A) the copolymer being composed of units derived from styrene and 10-30% by wt. of a higher alcohol ester containing 6 or more carbon atoms of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid, the alcohol from which the ester is formed having a b.pt. of at least 150‹ C. at 760 mm. Hg. The fibre is in the form of an islands-in-the-sea composite, in which component (B) forms the sea. The component (B) has a heat deformation temperature of from 40‹ to 75‹ C., an elongation in a 70‹ C. bath ofat least 100% and a shrinkage in hot water at 85‹ C. of at least 15% and the multi component fibre has a shrinkage in hot water of 90‹ C. of at least 15%. The component (A) forms fibres of a maximum denier of 0À45. The multi-component fibre is formed by spinning component (B) concurrently with component (A) preferably by extrusion of continuous streams in close contact with each other or by mixing the components followed by drawing the fibre at least 2À6 times at not more than 100‹ C. The fibres are formed with sheet like materials (see Division D1).
