Abstract
1457187 Spray-producers, spray coating AMCHEN PRODUCTS INC 25 Feb 1974 [12 July 1973] 8436/74 Headings B2F and B2L Apparatus for coating moving metal strip comprises two spray heads each having twelve radially disposed nozzles 82 for producing an aerosol from a liquid and a gas supplied separately thereto and being directed at an acute angle to the general plane of the spray head whereby the reaction of the aerosol tangentially to the axis of rotation causes the spray head to rotate, the spray heads being mounted one above and one below the metal strip 24 inside a spray chamber 22 which is exhausted to prevent escape of spray to the atmosphere and the exhaust gas filtered by filter means 34 which comprise a liquid bath through which the atmosphere withdrawn is bubbled, the liquid being that supplied to the spray head, the exhaust liquid and gas being recycled to the spray head, the gas being further reycled to the spray head, the gas being further purified by a surface fitter. The nozzles 82 are attached to a central hub 132 which has hollow portions 168 and 170 divided by a wall 172 for receiving liquid and air respectively. The hub 132 is supported by and rotates about co-axial gas and liquid feed pipes 142, 154, and liquid fed into chamber 162 from holes in feed pipe 154 is flung outwards by centrifugal force toward the feed pipes 93 for the nozzles 82, a hollow conical cap 176 partly defining the chamber aiding this flow and allowing the use of bearing assemblies not requiring fluid-tight seals.
