1457056 4 - Piperidino - 5 - oxo - 2 - pyrazolines FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 27 March 1974 [27 March 1973] 13676/74 Heading C2C Novel 4-piperidino-5-oxo-2-pyrazolines having the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is an optionally substituted phenyl radical having at most 40 carbon atoms; R<SP>2</SP> is hydroxy, amino, carboxy, sulpho, hydrogen, halogen or a (C 1 -C 45 ) alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylamino, dialkylamino, cycloalkylamino, arylamino, diarylamino, acylamino, diacylamino, carbamoyl, N-alkylacylamino, N-arylacylamino, ureido, N-alkylureido, N-cycloalkylureido or N-arylureido group; and R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> represent hydrogen, halogen, amino, hydroxy, sulpho or a (C 1 -C 20 ) alkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acylamino, alkylsulphonamido, arylsulphonamido, amido, alkylamino or arylamino group, or R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> together represent the atoms necessary to complete a cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic ring, other than those compounds which are claimed in claim 28 of Specification 1,438,459, are prepared by reducing a compound of the formula or a mixture thereof, wherein X is an anion, e.g. by means of a metal hydrogenation catalyst and optionally in the presence of a solvent. The novel compounds may be used as colour couplers for photographic materials.
