Abstract

1456784 Citric acid HITACHI CHEMICAL CO Ltd 18 July 1974 [18 July 1973] 31823/74 Heading C2C Citric acid is prepared by a fermentation process using a yeast of species Candida lipolytica or Candida tropicalis in a culture medium using as the main carbon source a purified low iodine value oil, that is one with an iodine value not more than 80, a total moisture and impurity content of not more than 0À2%, and an acid value of not more than 0À2. A neutralizing agent is added in an amount 0À05-0À1% by weight, and additionally during the culturing to a total amount of 10-20% based on the medium. Palm, coconut, palm kernel oils, cocao butter, and Japan wax or mixtures thereof may be used and calcium carbonate or hydroxide may be the neutralizing agent. Conventional nitrogen sources, inorganic salts and organic nutrients are present.
