Abstract
1456423 High-frequency line terminations BIRD ELECTRONIC CORP 19 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 12177/74 Heading H1W A termination for a RF transmission line comprises a heat sink B, Fig. 1; a dissipation element comprising a flat resistive film 41, Fig. 4, connected to the transmission line and deposited on a dielectric substrate 40, thermally connected to the heat sink B; and a conductive member 50 in series with film 40 and having a generally exponential profile approaching film 40. The heat sink is of aluminium H-section, is closed by plates and has radial cooling fins 11. A connector 30 for a coaxial cable is mounted on the aluminium housing 20 of a termination A, mounted on the central web 4 of the heat sink B. Within the housing 20a substrate 40, which consists of a thermally-conducting dielectric such as beryllium oxide, is mounted, with a resistive film 41 deposited thereon. One end of film 41 is connected, by a spring contact 36, to the centre conductor of connector 30. The other is connected to the housing 20 and thence to a block 50 of, e.g. aluminium, of which the face opposite the film 41 has a generally exponential profile, which may be achieved by means of three flats 54, 55, 56 at stated angles to the film 41.
