Abstract

1455925 Track brakes; braking systems; valves KRAMPE & CO FERTIGUNG IN BERGBAUBEDARF GmbH 20 Sept 1974 [17 Oct 1973] 41286/74 Headings F2E and F2F A braking system for a rail vehicle trolley 1 comprises shoes 7 which are moved into braking engagement with a rail 4 under the action of a spring 12 in a working cylinder 10 when fluid pressure is removed from a pressure compartment 13 of the cylinder 10 which removal is normally achieved by actuation of a release valve 14 controlled by centrifugal force; the system also incorporates a minimum pressure valve 18 which responds when the pressure falls below a predetermined minimum value, to release the remaining pressure, and a blocking valve 35 connected in series with the valve 18 and having a plunger 37 arranged to be actuated by one arm 42 of a two-arm lever 43 to close the blocking valve 35, the other arm 45 being disposed adjacent to a connecting socket 46 for a pump lever of a pump 17 for building up the pressure in the compartment 13, the lever 43 being tilted by the pump lever when the latter is inserted into the connecting socket 46 to thereby close the blocking valve 35. The minimum pressure valve 18 comprises a piston 20 slidable in a cylinder 19 and having a rod 22 extending into a bore 23. The bore 23 terminates in an annular seat 25 for a ball 26 which is pressed against rod 22 by a spring 27. The ball 26 is in a duct 29 in communication with the pressure compartment 13 and when the compartment 13 is filled the ball 26 is pressed against seat 25 and the piston 20 is displaced against cup springs 30 arranged between piston 20 and an adjustable cap 32. If the pressure leaks from compartment 13, then when the force exerted on the ball 26 becomes smaller than the spring force of springs 30, the ball 26 lifts off seat 25 so that pressure medium can flow from compartment 13 via a return line 16 to a collecting tank 15. The blocking valve 35 which as shown is an integral unit with valve 18 is disposed in the return line 16. The plunger 37 of the valve 35 has a tip 39 engageable with a lip seal 41 to close off the return line 16 when the pump 17 is actuated by the pump lever. As pressure starts to build up in compartment 13 the minimum pressure valve 18 is closed by pressure acting on surface 47 of piston 20 and shifts the piston 20 against the action of springs 30.
