1455909 Cholestatrienes WISCONSIN ALUMNI RESEARCH FOUNDATION 2 Dec 1974 [3 Dee 1973] 52047/74 Heading C2U The invention comprises cholesta-1,5,7-trien- 3-one (I) and cholesta-1,5,7-trien-3#-ol (II), and their preparation from cholesta-1,4,6-trien-3- one by base-catalysed isomerization to give I, reduction of which with a metal borohydride (optionally in admixture with an alkaline earth metal halide) gives II. Multi-stage conversion of II into 1α-hydroxycholecalciferol is as described in Specification 1,455,910.
