Abstract

1455322 Castors J P ANDERSEN 1 Feb 1974 [13 Feb 1973] 04742/74 Heading A4U A castor comprises a support member 1 from the sides of which extend shafts 6 on which are rotatably mounted wheels 7, and a casing 9 substantially surrounding the support member 1 and the wheels 7 and through which extends a vertical pin (not shown) which is rotatably engaged by the support member 1. The vertical pin engages in a sleeve 5 and three bores 4 in the support member 1 are provided for alternative use by the vertical pin. Two vertical pins may be used to fix the castor. The casing 9 has a bottom opening 10 which is of a width such that by removing the vertical pin and sleeve 5 the support member 1 can be moved around the inside of the casing to permit removal from the casing of the wheels 7 and shafts 6 and then removal of the support member itself. In a second embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the casing is part cylindrical in shape and the shafts 6 are replaced by a common straight shaft. The support member 1 with the straight shaft and the wheels assembled on it are removable from the casing as a unit. In a third embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the casing is part-spherical in shape and the wheels 7 are mounted on a straight shaft. A downwardly directed slot (18) in the support member 1 extends from the bore for the straight shaft to open at the bottom of the support member 1 whereby the wheels and the shaft can be removed as a unit.
