Abstract

1455124 Agitating by ultrasonic vibrations DAWE INSTRUMENTS Ltd 13 Feb 1974 [15 Feb 1973 1 Aug 1973] 7395/73 and 36597/73 Heading B1C [Also in Division H4] Liquid is vibrated by apparatus comprising a plurality of electro-mechanical transducers 14, the end plates 16 of which form a single vibration member 18 spaced from a wall 12 to define a space for receiving a liquid 25 for transmitting vibrations from the member 18 to the wall 12. Grooves 21 are provided in the member 18 between adjacent transducers 14 respectively so as to restrict vibration of the surface 19 of member 18 to a direction normal to the surface 19. In use, the wall 12 is placed beneath a liquid so as to cause cavitation thereof. The liquid 25 between member 18 and wall 12 is preferably such that the cavitation produced therein is 25% that of the cavitation of the cleaning liquid, a suitable liquid 25 being ethylene glycol.
