Abstract
1455095 Recovery of transplutonium elements KERNFORSCHUNG mbH GES FUER 29 March 1974 [30 March 1973] 14164/74 Heading G6R In a process for the recovery of transplutonium elements (e.g. americium and curium) from an aqueous solution remaining after the extraction of uranium and plutonium from a solution of spent nuclear fuel by means of an immiscible organic solvent, in which process the transplutonium elements, together with rare earth elements and other impurities, are extracted by means of an organic phosphorus sovent, the organic phase is contacted with an aqueous carboxylic acid solution containing an aminopolyacetic acid substance to extract transplutonium elements, and the residual organic phase is contacted with an aqueous solution to remove rare earth elements, the separation is improved by contacting part or all of the organic phase from this last extraction with the aqueous carboxylic acid solution containing the transplutonium elements. In an example, the organic solvent comprises di-(2-ethylhexyl)- phosphate, tributyl phosphate, and an alkane, and the aqueous carboxylic acid solution comprises lactic acid and diethylenetriamine pentaacetate.
