Abstract
1454981 Polymerizing lactones INTEROX 16 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 1999/75 Heading C3R Lactones are polymerized by contact with a catalytic quantity of a complex of tetrahydrofuran with an organo aluminium compound of formula where n and m are each from 0 to 10, the sum of n + m being at least 1; R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are each a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X and X<SP>1</SP> are each hydrogen, chlorine or a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 18 carbon atoms and R<SP>4</SP> is a divalent hydrocarbon radical having 2 to 20 carbon atoms. In examples epsilon-caprolactone is polymerized in various solvents by contact with a complex of tetrahydrofuran and a compound obtained from triisobutyl aluminium and butanediol.
