Abstract

1454898 Water-insoluble mono-azo dyestuffs from pyridone coupling components IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 April 1974 [1 June 1973] 26237/73 Addition to 1256093 Heading C4P Novel dyestuffs of the formula (one of the possible tautomeric forms) (wherein Z<SP>2</SP> is alkyl of at least 5 carbon atoms; X is Cl, Br or an esterified carboxyl group which does not contain an aromatic radical; n is 1 or 2; and the benzene ring may optionally be substituted in a position meta or para to the azo group by NO 2 , CN, Cl, Br, C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy, phenoxy or optionally substituted sulphamoyl) are prepared by diazotization of appropriately substituted anilines and coupling with 1 - Z 2 - 3 - cyano - 4 - methyl - 6 - hydroxypyrid-2-ones. The dyestuffs are used to dye synthetic textile materials, in particular aromatic polyesters.
