Abstract
1454787 Digital alarm clocks MANSEI KOGYO KK 24 Oct 1973 [9 Nov 1972 20 Nov 1972] 49484/73 Heading G3T [Also in Divisions G4 and H 1] In a digital clock comprising a frame 20 with a main shaft 10 on which time indicating drums 11- 15 are rotatably supported, each drum intermittently driving the adjacent higher order drum by means of a respective one of pinions 21-26 which are rotatably mounted on the frame within the drums, each pinion (taking pinion 23 as an example) has a first part 23a meshing continuously with inner teeth 37 of the adjacent higher order drum 13 and a second part 23b which is mutilated and is locked by a circumferential surface 33 of the adjacent lower order drum 12 except when a tooth of the part 23b enters a notch 411 which interrupts the locking surface 33. The pinion is thereupon rotated by one tooth pitch of the part 23b, advancing the drum 13 by the corresponding number (three) tooth pitches of the part 23a. As shown the pinions are mounted on shafts, e.g. 43, on plates 16-19 fixed between adjacent drums. The drums 11-14 indicate seconds, units and tens of minutes, and hours respectively, and the drum 15 carries day and a.m./p.m. indications Fig. 4 (not shown). The seconds drum 11 has inner teeth 31 driven by pinion 29 of an electric motor 27. To permit setting of the drums 12-14, the pinion between the drums 11, 12 is made in two parts 21, 22 which are detentably coupled to permit slip. Three forms of detent construction are described Figs. 5-8 (not shown). Arbor 53 of the drum 12 is extended and carries a setting knob (54, Fig. 4). A similar construction of pinion 25, 26 permits the day drum 15 alone to be turned, reverse rotation of this drum being prevented by a pawl 56 co-operating with projections 55 on the drum. The drums may be of transparent or translucent plastics with a neon lamp inside. The clock has a switch operating mechanism (see Division H1) e.g. to sound an alarm, and comprising a time setting drum (98), Figs. 10, 11 (not shown) located beyond the drum 15 and fixed on the shaft 10, the other end of the shaft carrying an alarm setting knob (116). An alarm cam drum (102) is located within the setting drum (98) and driven, via a reducing gear (107), by a pinion (105) on the shaft 110 of the ten minute drum 13. At the preset time, the cam drum (102) moves axially under the force of a central compression spring (104) to close a micro-switch (111).
