Abstract

1454143 Identifying printer type carriers BURROUGHS CORP 27 Nov 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 51323/74 Heading G4H A printer uses interchangeable type belts which each carry an identifying code in the form of selectively flattened teeth on the belt, the teeth co-operating with means for driving the belt (Fig. 1, not shown). The code, preceded by a sync. bit, is obtained by reluctance sensing of the teeth. The sync. bit triggers a monostable 43 which causes a clock 45 and a modulo-6 counter 46 to control the input of the code to a register 47, then to feed it to a comparator 51 which also receives a reference code. A mismatch 53 inhibits printing or actuates a warning display device.
