Abstract
1453604 Stretching films MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 4 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972 26 Oct 1973] 56150/73 Heading B5B Thermo softening high molecular film, e.g. of polyolefin, polyamide, polyester, polyether, polyvinylidene fluoride, PVA or PVC may be drawn by moving the film in a longitudinal direction while maintaining the film at a temperature below its softening temperature and exerting on the surfaces of the film a force tending to expand the film while at the same time exerting a compressive force on the film perpendicular to the plane of the film through rubber like resilient members. A film 1 of thickness a and width c is stretched to thickness b and width d by passing 1 through the nip formed between endless belts 2 and 3 made of rubber or other resilient material. The belts pass over metal rollers 4 and 5 adapted to apply pressure to 1 through the belts while driving the same. 6 and 7 are auxiliary rolls. The film may be fed from a roll (15) and further drawn by another draw out roll (16) after pressure drawing. The film may be passed through a number of pressure rolling devices in succession.
