Abstract

1453509 Purification of vinylidene chloride IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Feb 1975 [18 March 1974] 11864/74 Heading C2C Vinylidene chloride is purified to remove dichloroacetylene impurities by treating with a C 1-15 primary or secondary aliphatic or carbocyclic amine. The amine preferably contains C 1-4 alkyl groups, e.g. dimethylamine or diethylamine, and is employed in an amount of 0À5- 2500 moles of amine per mole of impurity at 0-32‹ C. The unreacted amine is subsequently preferably recovered. The impurity may be removed during the formation of vinylidene chloride by the dehydrochlorination of 1,1,2- trichloroethane by addition of the appropriate amine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,299,553.
