Abstract

1452334 Sliding door for aircraft BOEING CO 30 Oct 1973 50380/73 Heading E2M An aircraft door assembly has an operating mechanism comprising, first and second tracks 34, (32), Fig. 1 (not shown), mounted on wall structure (12) and extending one on each side of the opening from the lower end to the upper end of the opening, a central third track 92 mounted on wall structure above, the opening and extending upwardly from a position adjacent the opening, and a door 24 having followers 40, (38) and 42 for engagement in and movement along tracks 34, (32) and 92, respectively, the followers 34 and (32) being mounted on adjacent the lower corners of the door and the follower 42 being mounted centrally of the upper end of the door. The lower ends of the tracks curve inwardly upwardly to move the door inwardly during the initial opening movement. The followers comprise arms each provided with track-engaging rollers 80, 82, 88, 90. The upper follower 42 is pivotally connected to a link 104 in a continuous chain 56 driven by assembly (44), Fig. 5 (not shown), retains the door in the closed position, and is released manually from the inside and outside of the aircraft by means of handles (126, 152). Disengagement of the latching assembly also energises the drive motor (50). Opening of the door is assisted by means of a pair of compressed gas cylinders (72) having their pistons acting on the shaft (58) of the motor (50) via a rack and pinion arrangement (68, 66, 62, 60).
