Abstract
1452214 Magnetic switches BROWN BOVERI & CIE AG 17 Jan 1974 [18 Jan 1973] 02359/74 Heading H1N A contact breaker for use in an I.C. engine comprises a sealed glass reed contact unit 11 with magnetic flux guides 7, 8 adjacent respective resilient contact reeds 6, 5, the latter being actuated by a ring-shaped magnetic rotor 10 attached to a distributer shaft 3 and consisting of magnetic material bound with insulating material, the rotor being radially magnetized to form zones 17b, Fig. 3, of alternately opposite polarity with intermediate neutral zones 17c. The contact unit 11 is housed in an insulating carrier 4 through which limb portions 7a, 8a of the flux guides extend to points adjacent the rotor. As the rotor rotates, zones of opposite polarity will be positioned adjacent the limb portions, thus causing the contact reeds to close, followed by neutral zones which allow the contact reeds to open due to their resilience.
