Abstract
1452074 Steel sheet for enamelling UNION SIDERURGIQUE DU NORD ET DE L'EST DE LA FRANCE 14 Nov 1973 [21 Nov 1972 7 Nov 1973] 52862/73 Headings C7D and C7F Steel sheet for enamelling is coated with Ni and/or Co or salts thereof to deposit 0.45 - 20g of metal per sq. m and then gas decarburized to eliminate substantially all carbon with reduction of the salt to metal; during cooling from the decarburizing anneal the sheet is subjected to an oxidizing atmosphere containing 2% to 7% of water vapour and having an H 2 /H 2 O ratio less than 6 whereby the coating metal is converted to a tightly adherent oxide. Preferably decarburization is carried out in a nitrogen-hydrogen mixture containing 10 - 75% hydrogen with a dewpoint of 20 - 55‹C and a H 2 :H 2 O ratio of 3.5:1 to 6:1, while the coating may be applied by dipping in an aqueous solution of Co and/or Ni salts, or by applying the nitrates, possibly by spraying, while molten in their water of crystallization.
