1452050 Inserting separator strip in containers; feeding sheets ENZINGER-UNION WERKE AG 1 May 1975 18164/75 Headings B8C and B8R For maintaining the spacings between articles, e.g. bottles, arranged in a container in a block formation of at least two parallel rows, a strip of packing material is shaped in the form of a path which extends sinusoidally along the rows partially around each article on corresponding sides of adjacent articles of adjacent rows, and inserting the shaped strip into said path between the articles. In apparatus for inserting the strip in two stages, strips 10 are supplied from a magazine 15 by an endless belt 18, driven by a motor 17 to a feeding roller 9a of a series of rollers 9 around which a strip is guided by sinusoidally arranged guide plates 21. The rollers 9 are driven by a motor 24 via a belt 25, the motors 17, 24 being stopped when the leading end of a strip 10 strikes an abutment 27. The rollers 9 are arranged in a carrier 8 supported with a carrier 12 on a mounting plate 4, Fig. 1, movable vertically by a pneumatic device (7) above two positions on a conveyer belt carrying containers (11) holding bottles 20, at which positions each container is halted by a stop (la or 2a). At the first position the carrier 8 is lowered to insert a strip 10 a limited distance downwardly into a container 11 where it is clamped by clamping elements 28 when the carrier 8 is raised. At the second halting position the carrier 12 is lowered and sleeves 13, Fig. 3, therein move the strip 10 downwardly into its required final position. A member 26, Fig. 4, assists the rollers and strip to enter the container 11a. The edge of the strip which leads during insertion may be pre-compressed by pinch rollers to enable it to enter between the articles without damaging labels (e.g. of bottles).
