1451529 Counting apparatus D GOTTLIEB & CO 21 Jan 1974 [29 Feb 1973] 02816/74 Heading G4D [Also in Division H1] An electromagnetic device for determining the credit due in a pin-ball machine comprises two solenoids 21, 22 to be supplied with add and subtract pulses respectively, each solenoid operating a pawl 28, 28s driving a respective ratchet wheel 30, 30s, and each ratchet wheel being coupled to a cam surface 50, 50s whereby when the ratchet wheels move into and out of phase one surface 50s is shifted axially to operate a contact set 52. When the ratchets 30, 30s are in phase (as shown) the contacts 52 are open and the machine is inoperative When coins &c. are introduced credit pulses are applied to solenoid 21 to advance ratchet 30 an appropriate number of steps; contacts 52 close to start the machine. As games are played debit pulses are applied to solenoid 22 to advance ratchet 30s until the credit is exhausted and the ratchets are again in phase; in the course of play additional credits can be earned when further pulses are applied to solenoid 30. To indicate the outstanding credit ratchet 30s is coupled to a number disc 60 while ratchet 30 is coupled to a disc 62 having an aperture 63 through which one of the numbers can be seen indicating the number of steps out of phase. Each pawl 28, 28s is formed with a nose 40 actuating further contact sets 49, 49s.
