Abstract
1451488 Powder coating composition NIPPON PAINT CO Ltd 30 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55656/73 Headings C3R C3P and C3B A powder coating composition comprises at least one solid resin and at least one polyisocyanate having an average of at least two isocyanate groups in each molecule. The solid resin is preferably one containing active hydrogen atoms which react with isocyanate groups and is, in particular an acrylic resin containing hydroxyl groups, a polyester or an acrylicmodified polyester resin. Other suitable resins are epoxy resins, polyethers and amino resins. The polyisocyanate is preferably solid at room temperature and may be one which contains biuret or allophanate groups or one prepared by reacting a di- or tri-isocyanate with a chain extender. The composition may be uniformly blended, e.g. by dry blending, semi-dry blending or melt-blending, followed by pulverization to form a powdery paint. Substrates may be coated with the paints by techniques such as electrostatic coating or fluidized bed coating, followed by heating to temperatures of from 140‹ to 240‹ C. Pigments and other conventional additives may be incorporated in the compositions.
