Abstract
1451436 Combustion chamber walls LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Dec 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 50514/72 Heading F4B [Also in Division F1] A flame tube for a gas turbine engine includes a row of ceramic rings 113 mounted inside a casing 112 and abutting a fixed abutment 114 at one end and urged towards the abutment by a clamping device 17 at its opposite end. As shown, the flame tube is of the annular type with an inner row of ceramic e.g. silicon nitride, rings 115. The clamping device includes a yoke 17 with clamping pads 118, 119 abutting surfaces 118, 119 which are inclined at angles to intersect at a point on the flame tube axis. The corresponding abutment surfaces between the end ring in each row of ceramic rings and its respective abutment members 114, 116 similarly are inclined to intersect at the same point. Also, to facilitate heat expansion, the abutting surfaces between adjacent rings in the rows are inclined. Air holes 127, 128 are provided by notches in adjacent rings. Again, Fig 1, (not shown), the surfaces on which the clamping pads abut, (20), (21), lie on a radial plane, and the abutment surfaces at the opposite ends of the rows lie on a mutual conical surface intercepting the plane at the tube axis. Also, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the clamping member for the outer row of rings is arranged at the opposite end of the row to that of the inner ring, and comprises a ring (227) and clamping bolts (229).
