Abstract

For the preparation of heterocyclic and carbocyclic diaryl compounds of the formula I, in which A represents a monocyclic or bicyclic aromatic carbocyclic or a monocyclic or polycyclic aromatic heterocyclic ring system, B represents a moncyclic or polycyclic aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring system, it being possible for the ring systems A and B to contain non-ionic and/or ionic substituents, R represents an acyl radical or a sulpho group and X represents the nitro group, cyano group, a carboxylic ester group, an acyl group or the -NH-R group, acylamino compounds of the formula II, in which Hal represents a chlorine or bromine atom, are reacted with compounds of the formula III in the presence of metallic copper or mixtures thereof with copper salts in a solvent which is inert under the reaction conditions at temperatures of 20 to 200 DEG C. The process is novel, and with its aid the compounds of the formula I are obtained in high purity and good yields in a simple, gentle manner. The compounds of the formula I are important intermediates, e.g. for the preparation of dyestuffs. <IMAGE>
