Compound Ia is prepared from D-homoestrone methyl ether (II) by the sequence II#3- methoxy - 17a# - hydroxy - D - homoestra- 2,5(10) - diene#3 - methoxy - D - homoestra- 2,5(10) - dien - 17a - one#3 - methoxy - 17aα- ethynyl - 17a# - hydroxy - D - homoestra - 2,5(10)- diene (III)# the Li salt of III#3-methoxy- 17a# - hydroxy - D - homo - 19 - nor - 17aα- pregna - 2,5(10) - dien - 20 - yne - 21 - carboxylic acid#3 - oxo - 17a# - hydroxy - D - homo - 19- nor - 17aα - pregna - 5(10),20 - diene - 21- carboxylic acid γ-lactone#Ia. In a variant, Ia is obtained from III via 17aα-ethynyl-17a#- hydroxy - D - homoestr - 5(10) - en - 3 - one and 3#,17a# - dihydroxy - D - homo - 19 - nor - 17aα- pregn-5(10)-ene-21-carboxylic acid γ-lactone. Compound Ib is prepared analogously from 16-dehydro-D-homoestrone methyl ether, itself prepared from II by bromination and dehydrobromination.
