Abstract

1450681 Disc recording and playback PROCESS PERIPHERALS Ltd 27 Nov 1973 [27 Nov 1972] 54746/72 Heading G5R A head 5 is moved from track to track on a disc record 3 by rotating a head support 1 through not more than 45 degrees about an axis which is parallel to and spaced from the axis of rotation of the disc 3 and passes through the disc 3. As shown, the spring-mounted flying heads 5, 7 may be either magnetic or optical, and the heads and their support plate 1 are statically balanced about their axis of rotation. A rotary solenoid 22 is controlled by a photoelectric tachometer 24, 25, 26 to lower the head plate 1 towards the record 3 when the record reaches 90% of its normal running speed.
