Abstract
1450603 Aliphatic dialdehydes RHONEPOULENC SA 9 Oct 1974 [10 Oct 1973] 43831/74 Heading C2C Aliphatic dialdehydes are prepared by reducing the corresponding acid chloride with hydrogen and a palladium catalyst, in the presence of a tertiary amide, specifically of formula in which: R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, which may be identical or different, each represents a straight or branched, saturated aliphatic group having at most 6 carbon atoms, a cycloaliphatic group having 5 or 6 ring carbon atoms, or a phenyl, phenylalkyl or alkylphenyl group, the alkyl substituent of which phenyl group contains at most 4 carbon atoms, or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> together form a saturated or unsaturated divalent radical having 4 or 5 carbon atoms, and R is as defined under R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> or represents a hydrogen atom or forms together with one of the radicals R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, a divalent radical having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms. Examples prepare glutaric acid, adipic acid, suberic acid and dodecanedioic acid using dimethylacetamide or N-methylpyrrolidone as amide.
