Abstract

1450492 Winch disc brakes TEXAS TECHNICAL ENTERPRISES Inc 1 May 1974 19107/74 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] an A winch spool and brake assembly comprises a winch spool (22), Fig. 3 (not shown), on a shaft 20 with a flange (26), (28) at eithor end for containing cable, at least one flange having a brake disc 62 extending therefrom in spaced relation thereto with a brake caliper 73 carrying spaced brake blocks 74, 76. As shown in broken lines the caliper may be provided about an axis 82 into a position 72 for servicing, after a stay 79 has been released. A control system, Fig. 9, for actuating the brake has a source S of compressed air which is fed by conduit 140 through filter F and regulator R to control valve C with actuating lever 142. A control conduit 144, 150 extends from the valve C to a safety valve 146 which is connected by conduit 160 to an air/oil booster 162 connected to conduits 136 supplying hydraulic pressure fluid to the brake shoes. The safety valve 146 is connected through a conduit 148 and a check valve 154 to an accumulator 156 with a return conduit 158. Should the pressure of the air supply to the valve 146 through the conduit 144, 150 drop below a predetermined value the valve 146 operates to prevent back flow from the accumulator 156 to the conduit 150 and connects the accumulator 156 to .the air/oil booster 162 to apply the brake. In a modification, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), a brake disc (170) is provided with -an annular passage (184) for circulation of coolant fluid such as water.
