Abstract

1450135 Ship fittings BRIDGESTONE TIRE KK and HAKODATE SEIMO SENGU KK 18 Dec 1973 [26 Dec 1972] 58693/73 Heading B7S An inflatable gasbag 1, e.g. of rubber which is normally folded and secured to the side of a ship but which may be inflated in an emergency to provide additional buoyancy, is protected in its folded condition by rubber fenders 4 fixed, e.g. by bolts round the periphery :of the folded bag 1. The bag 1 is held in its folded condition by holding plates 6a at the lower ends of wire ropes which serve to hang the bag from its upper edge. The outer surface of the bag is formed with ridges 1f. The fenders 4 consist preferably of end fenders 4a and centre fenders 4b. 'The centre fenders 4b disposed at the top and bottom edges of the bag 1 are secured to.a facing plate 3 on which the bag 1 is folded by bolts 11 secured into metallic pieces 10 in the fenders 4b, and the end fenders 4a are carried by protective rubber plates 5 at the ends of the bag 1, the plates 5 also being mounted on the plate 3. The assembly of the plate 3, the fenders 4 and the bag 1 are then secured to the side of the ship by bolts 12. At least the front end of the fenders 4a is chamfered as at 4z to reduce resistance to water flow. In alternative constructions the form of the fenders 4 at the ends of the lug 1 are shaped to follow the pointed shape of the ends of the folded lug.
