Abstract

1449993 Forming coated products; coating apparatus AMERICAN CAN CO 10 May 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 20719/74 Headings B2E and B2L A method of flattening the surface of hot plastics material 11 which has been applied to irregular surfaces 13 of workpieces. e.g. a metal push-button can ends 15, comprises randomly placing the coated workpieces on a conveyor 21 which moves the workpieces to a roller 25 coated with silicone rubber having a softness of 15 to 21 on the Shore A scale, and contacting the surfaces of the plastics material with roller 25. The speed of the conveyor is synchronised with rotation of the roller, and the rubber may be sponge rubber. The plastics material is preferably a plastisol which seals pierced or severed metal defining a venting aperture 17 and a pouring aperture 19 in the can end.
