1449721 Azo compounds BASF AG 31 Jan 1974 [1 Feb 1973 17 Oct 1973] 04470/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] A process for the manufacture of an azo compound of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> independently denote aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radicals of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, R<SP>3</SP> may alternatively denote an aromatic radical, and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> may alternatively form, together with the adjacent carbon atom, a cycloaliphatic ring, comprises reacting a dichloroazo compound of formula with an aluminium compound of formula The compounds of Formula II are made by chlorinating ketazines of formula The compounds of Formula I may be used as free-radical polymerization initiators, as crosslinking agents for polyolefins and/or polydienes or as anti-knock additives for gasoline.
