Abstract

1449556 Paving surfaces SPECIALIST SURFACING Ltd 15 Nov 1974 49443/74 Heading B2E [Also in Division E1] A paving surface formed on a substrate comprises a mat of stone chippings coated with bituminous binder, there being voids between the chippings which are filled to the full depth of the mat with a cement composition containing a synthetic resin. A suitable thickness for the paving layer is ¥" to 3". preferably 1¢". The binder may constitute 4 to 5% by weight of the chippings. The binder may be hot rolled asphalt or bitumen macadam. The resin may be an acrylic polymer or polyvinyl acetate. The resin cement composition may include a filler; e.g. silica and/or slate dust together with fine sharp sand. The composition may also include an abrasive material such as carborundum powder. A method of forming a paving surface on a substrate comprises laying a mat of stone chippings coated with a bituminous binder on the substrate so as to have voids between the chippings and filling the voids with a resin cement composition.
