Abstract

1449540 Nitro-styrene derivatives SARABHAI RESEARCH CENTRE 17 Sept 1974 [21 March 1974 (3)] 40389/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds I in which R 1 is H, Me or Et, R 2 is H, Cl or Br and R 3 is, 5-nitro-thiazol-2-yl-oxy or (in which R 4 is C 1-4 alkyl, C 5-6 cycloalkyl or phenyl optionally monosubstituted by Cl, Br, I, OMe, Me or NO 2 and X is O or S) are prepared by refluxing an R 2 and hydroxy substituted benzaldehyde with a C 3-4 alkylamine in a hydrocarbon solvent to produce the corresponding aldimine which is reacted with a nitroalkane R 1 -CH 2 -NO 2 in an aliphatic acid or in an alcohol containing an aliphatic acid at 50‹ to 110‹ C. to produce a compound III which is converted into its alkali metal salt and reacted with (i) 2-halo-5-nitro-thiazole to form a compound I (R 3 =5-nitro-thiazol 2-yloxy) or (ii) a compound R 4 -N=C=X to form a compound I (R 3 =O-C(=X)-NHR 4 ). Compounds I have anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anthelmintic properties and may comprise a composition which may be administered orally.
