Abstract

1449334 Discharge control unit for a metallurgical vessel NIPPON KOKAN KK KOKAN KIKAI KOGYO KK and TOKYO YOGYO KK 25 Jan 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 03560/74 Heading F4B A unit for controlling discharge of molten metal from the bottom of a metallurgical vessel 1 (e.g. a ladle or a tundish for molten steel) is supported by springs 13 which are cooled by fluid, e.g. air, to below 200‹C. The nozzle unit includes a nozzle 2, stationary plate 3, rotatable sliding plate 4 to control discharge, and a rotor 5 for turning the sliding plate. The rotor is mounted on an annular frame 7 through the intermediary of supporting metal 6. The frame 7 is provided with a ring of spring-retaining casings 10, the springs 13 of which are supported by plates 12 on bolts 11 secured to the bottom plate 15 of the vessel 1. Cooling fluid is supplied through an inlet port 9, annular passage 8 and conduits 14 to each spring retaining casing 10. The fluid is exhausted to the atmosphere at the lower ends of the casings 10.
