Abstract
1449005 Travelling wave shedding looms MAQUINARIA TEXTIL DEL NORTE DE ESPANA SA 12 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42928/73 Heading D1E A vertical travelling wave shedding loom passes the shuttles around a closed loop path embracing two shedding motions, two beat-up and shuttle picking motions and, at each side of the loom, a weft winding mechanism, so that two fabrics are woven side-by-side. Shedding: Groups of healds 16 are spaced apart by plates 5, 6 and held at different levels by rods 10. A chain 42, travelling around the closed path, has opposed cam units 55 with shafts 32 and pulleys 30, 31 with belts 29, 36, the pulleys 30, 31 being rotated as the chain traverses by a rack and pinion 40, 33. The belts 29, 36 of one cam unit 55 are at a different heald level to the corresponding cam unit 55 at the other end of the healds 16 so that, as the chain traverses, each pair of cam units sheds the healds in front of a shuttle. Picking: Under the healds 16 are picking reed blades 19, alternately arranged in mirror image so that nebs in the blades 19 act on rollers 47 on the shuttles 54 to traverse them when the blades 19 are transversely reciprocated by rollers 43, 44 on the cam units 55. The nebs 27 form a guiding groove for rollers 46 on the shuttle 54 whose weft spool 45 beats-up the previously laid weft as it is traversed and lays the new weft. Weft winding: As the shuttles 54 leave a shed they are engaged by a fork 64 on a spring loaded telescopic arm 62 which presses the shuttle against a track so that rotation of the arms carries round the shuttles to the entry of the other shed. The shuttle spool 45 is simultaneously engaged by a bellows 74 and weft 63, extending from a guide tube 71 to be held by suction in the arm 62, is hooked into a catch on the side of the spool 45. As the arms 62 rotate a pinion 69 on the arm engages a rack 70 so that the bellows 74 rotate and the weft is wound onto the spool 45. Shears sever the weft as the shuttles leave the winding mechanisms.
