Abstract
1448816 Tractor/trailer couplings W H DAVIS & SONS Ltd 7 Nov 1973 [2 Sept 1972] 40808/72 Heading B7T In a vehicle coupling wherein a tongue 11 (preferably part of a swan neck carried by a tractor vehicle) engages in a socket 12 (in a load-carrying trailer vehicle), a tongue locating assembly associated with the socket 12 comprises a pair of tongue engaging elements (rollers 18) movable in a lateral direction (along guideways 19) transverse to the direction of insertion of the tongue 11 relative to the socket 12, and a tongue engaging member 23 responsive to relative tongue/socket movement in a direction transverse both to the direction of insertion and to the lateral direction (that is vertical movement of the tongue 11 from its dotted position 11a in Fig. 1 to the full line position) for displacing the elements 18 towards one another so that they engage lateral sides of the tongue 11 to laterally centralize and retain the tongue relative to the socket 12. The vertically guided member 23 is a weighted block which is gravity biased downwards and is connected to the horizontally guided rollers 18 by respective links 21.
