Abstract

1448794 Poly(etheresteramides) EASTMAN KODAK CO 4 June 1974 [4 June 1973] 24731/74 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] A linear water-dissipatable poly(etheresteramide) is derived from: (A) adipic, pimelic, and/or suberic acid, and, based on moles of (B) +(C), 20-50% mole of a glycol (B) being a C 2-4 aliphatic diol or a polyethylene glycol H-(CH 2 CH 2 ) 3-12 -OH, and 80-50% mole of (C) an oxypropyldiamine where R is ethylene, or 1,2- or 1,3-propylene; # inh being 0À15-1À0 and (alkyleneoxy link)/(A) ratio being from 1 to 13. The polymer may be made by reacting (A) and (C) with excess (B) in the presence of an etherification catalyst, e.g. Ti tetraisopropoxide, followed by removing the excess of (B). The polymer may be applied as a dissipation in water to a substrate, followed by evaporation of the water, or as a hot-melt to size yarns, e.g. of polyester, cotton, rayon, cellulose acetate, and/or polypropylene, or as a hotmelt adhesive to paper or cloth. A film of the polymer may be used as a package for detergents &c., the package disintegrating in hot water. Comparative Examples 6-9 describe non- water dissipatable polymers similar to, but outside the scope of, the invention.
