Abstract

1448590 Moulding composite articles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973 (2)] 59057/73 and 52235/74 Heading B5A The subject matter is all included in Specification 1,448,589, but the claims relate to a multiple injection moulding process for making an article having a portion of a first material free of fibrous material and a portion of a second material containing a fibrous material, the process comprising injecting the first material through a first sprue channel into a mould having an insert comprising a plurality of spaced projections projecting into the mould cavity at the position of the desired joint between the materials, injecting the second material into the mould cavity through a second sprue channel disposed such that the projections of the insert are between the two sprue channels, retracting the insert before the second material contacts it, to allow the second material to flow into the spaces vacated by the projections of the insert, and cooling the materials to solidify them.
