Abstract

1448555 Moulding plastisol inks BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO 21 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972 (2)] 39071/72 and 39072/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] In a process for forming a raised design on a workpiece such as a shoe; wherein a plastisol ink is applied to a mould having the design formed by recesses in its surface, excess ink is removed from the lands between the recesses by a doctor blade, the workpiece is located against the mould, and the ink is transferred to the workpiece to form the raised design and is gelled by heating; the plastisol ink contains particles comprising a resin which melts to fuse with that of the plastisol, colouring matter, and a binding agent which prevents loss of pigment during doctoring so that the lands between the recesses of the mould are not smeared with colour. P.V.C. and pigment are added to a solution of cold setting epoxy resin which is ballmilled during evaporation of the solvent to form a coloured powder. After the epoxy resin has cured the powder is incorporated in an unpigmented P.V.C. plastisol containing a flowcontrol agent. A design of stitching &c. is applied to a shoe upper by a first mould in a R.F. heated press and at the same time projections are formed for locating the upper in a second mould in which the printed design is embossed.
