Abstract

1448535 Walking beam furnaces STEIN SURFACE 16 Aug 1974 [22 Aug 1973] 36078/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for moving and supporting round articles comprises fixed bars and movable bars each having regularly spaced recesses in which the said articles are disposable, and support means connected to and supporting said movable bars, the movable bars having two stable positions of support on the support means, the support means being cyclically movable whereby the movable bars when in stable positions on the support means effect transfer of articles disposed in the recesses in the fixed bars along the fixed bars, each movable bar being connected to the support means by links each of which is pivoted to the movable bar and the support means at respective positions along the hole and is pivotal through its vertical position between two stop positions on each side of its vertical position and defining the said stable positions of the movable bar. The apparatus is shown applied to a walking beam type furnace in which fixed bars 1 and movable bars 2 have spaced recesses 3 and 4 for the generally circular articles, with the movable bars 2 supported from a cyclically driven frame 10 by uprights 5, a further frame 8 and pivotal links 9, the latter being oscillatable between stops 16, 17 on the frame 10. The latter rests on legs 11 attached to an eccentric casing 12 with an eccentric head 13 keyed to a driven shaft 14 rotating in bearings 15. If continuous feed of the furnace is to be stopped, the horizontal part of the cyclic movement is neutralized by suitable movement of the frame 8 by hydraulic motor 19 thus rocking the arms 9 between the stops. The circular articles, e.g. tubes picked up by their recesses roll back exposing different parts to the heat.
