1448177 Methacrylonitrile block copolymers GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 10 July 1974 [6 Aug 1973] 30514/74 Heading C3P Five-block copolymers ABCBA are obtained by polymerizing a conjugated diene (to form block C) and styrene or an alkyl styrene (to form blocks B) in the presence of a dilithium organometallic initiator, followed by addition of methacrylonitrile to the lining BCB polymer to form the terminal A blocks. Examples refer to the production of polymethacrylonitrile-polystyrene - polybutadiene - polystyrene - polymethacrylonitrile block copolymers in the presence of diisoprenyl dilithium or dilithiopolyisoprene initiators, the styrene and butadiene being charged as a mixture. A comparative polymethacrylonitrile - polybutadiene - polymethacrylonitrile copolymers is also prepared, using diisoprenyldilithium.
