Abstract

1447635 Counting apparatus HONEYWELL Ltd 21 Aug 1974 [25 May 1973] 25272/73 Heading G4D A binary counter 10 operates an alphanumeric display 12 and is caused to count continuously while a manual switch 15 is held operated and thus display a succession of characters. The arrangement may be employed in a programming device for test apparatus: instead of employing a plurality of, e.g. 40- way switches to set up the steps of a test a plurality of counters 10, displays 12 and switches 15 are provided; each switch is operated until the display shows the desired character associated with a particular step; the output of counter 10 passes over lines 13 to perform the appropriate control function. The switch 15 is two way with a centre stable position and causes the counter to count up or down according to which way it is pushed. When the switch is operated a monostable 21 is triggered sending a pulse via differentiator 22 and the selected one of AND gates 18 to the counter. After 300 m.secs. the monostable resets and energizes an 8 Hz oscillator 25 to step the counter. Thus the counter advances one step, pauses and then advances rapidly so that by appropriate manipulation of switch 15 the display is quickly and easily set to the desired character.
