1447409 Cyclopropanes PIERRE FABRE SA 17 Oct 1973 [17 Oct 1972] 48265/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises cyclopropanes of the Formula I in which X represents a carboxy or carbamyl group, a carbamoyl group which is N-mono or disubstituted by alkyl or carbaminidoyl groups, a cyano, formyl, hydroxymethyl, alkyl-substituted hydroxymethyl or aminomethyl group, a carbamoyloxymethyl group which is N-mono or disubstituted by a carbamoyl group or by a group R an R-oxymethyl or acyloxymethyl group; R represents hydrogen alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or phenyl group or a mono, di or tricyclic aromatic radical having 5 or 6 ring members and up to 4 hetero-atoms; R 1 , R 2 and R 3 may be the same as R except that they cannot be hydrogen, R 1 <SP>1</SP>, R 2 1 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alloyl group and esters and salts of such acids and alcohols and oximes of such ketones. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a ketone carbanion of the Formula II with an epichlorhydrin derivative of formula in which R<SP>1</SP> 4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group to form a compound in which X represents the group -CHOH-R<SP>1</SP> 4 and if desired further reacting the resulting compound to obtain another compound of the invention. The keto carbanion of Formula II is prepared by treating the ketone starting material with sodoamide, sodium hydride or sodium tert. butylate in suspension.
