Abstract
1447095 Road vehicle bodies; aircraft framework B GEORGII 3 Oct 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 46175/73 Headings B7B and B7W [Also in Divisions D1 and E1] Structural reinforcement suitable as a stiffening means for planar and curved structural elements in building boat hulls, automobile bodies and aircraft wings, comprises several sections as 1 to 4 of multiple helically wound wire, e.g. of iron or aluminium, which follow the surface of a body having flat sides 5 to 8 joined together at adjacent flat sides 5, 7 by interconnecting the wires at coincident points. The flat sides 6, 8 may be attached to plates 9, 10 or to longitudinal wires 20 (Fig. 2) at adjacent corners. The cross-sections of the helices may be rectangular, triangular or trapezium shaped, and in the latter case may be joined as in Fig. 5 to support curved plates 49, 50. A group of interconnected sections may be surrounded by a further helical section wound around longitudinal wires at the corners of the interconnected sections and different cross-sectional shapes may be combined (Figs. 8 to 11, not shown). The finished construction can be filled out with a polyurethane foam or insulating wool in plastics bags which are introduced initially evacuated and then allowed to expand to fill the space.
