1446941 Catering systems BATEMAN CATERING ORGANISATION Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 3842/73 Heading A4T A catering system comprises the steps of removal of packs 5 of individual lidded containers 3 containing pre-frozen portions of food from refrigerated storage, loading of the packs 5 on to shelves, e.g. within a heating apparatus or on a trolley (17), Fig. 2 (not shown), heating of the packs 5 for a predetermined time, removal from the shelves and, before or after heating, de-lidding to produce a collection of individual food containers 3 for location on a self-service display and storage stand 30. The containers 3 may be united by a common lid sheet 27, e.g. of polypropylene or polypropylene board, which is heat sealed or otherwise adhered to container flanges 19 at regions defined by an apertured screening sheet 21, which is interposed between the sheet 27 and containers 3. On withdrawal from storage, each pack 5 may be placed on a carrier 11, having an end-wall 15 and ridges 13 for location between rows of containers 3 and the carriers 11 are loaded on to the trolley (17) or into the heating means, which may be infrared or hot air operated. After cooking, the sheet 27 is peeled off and the carrier 11 is placed on one of a pair of shelves 33, 35 of the stand 30, which shelves 33, 35 are pivotably adjustable and the upper one of which is heated, the lower one being preferably part-heated and/or part refrigerated. A slideway 37 is provided for trays 39, which may be used by customers to remove a chosen selection of food containers 3 for consumption.
