Abstract

1446910 Vitreous fibres JAPAN INORGANIC MATERIAL CO Ltd 28 Dec 1973 [19 June 1973] 60034/73 Heading C1J Vitreous fibres are produced by melting a powder comprising 35-75 wt. per cent (calculated as silica) of a silicaceous material, from 10-55 wt. per cent calculated as calcium oxide) of a calciferous material, minor amounts of metal oxides and unavoidable impurities, and passing the melt through orifices or spinnerets to form the fibres. By minor amounts of metal oxides is meant amounts of from 2-13 wt. per cent Al 2 O 3 , 0-10 wt. per cent ZrO 2 , 0-4 wt. per cent Fe 2 O 3 , 0-3 wt. per cent Na 2 O, 0-3 wt. per cent K 2 O, 0-2 wt. per cent MgO and 0-1 wt. per cent TiO 2 . The powder may comprise portland cement (preferably containing no gypsum or other SO 3 releasing material) and a material containing at least 32À6 wt. per cent (calculated as silica) of silicon, e.g. silica sand, white clay, shirasu, and zircon flour.
