Abstract
1446861 Galvanizing steel wires TINSLEY WIRE INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Dec 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 42404/72 Heading C7F One or more steel wires are galvanized in a zinc bath 4 and then drawn upwardly through particulate material 10, e.g. sand, slag, stone charcoal, glass beads, pebbles, gravel, coke, carbon or anthracite, to which a lubricating film forming material, e.g. oil, tallow or esters of fatty acids, is fed through pipes 14. Non-oxidizing gas, e.g H 2 S town, coke-oven, blast furnace or liquid petroleum, may be introduced through pipes 13. Air and water may be directed on to the wire through pipes 16, 18 respectively. The film forming liquid or the non-oxidizing gas may also contain dimethyl disulphides, methyl mercaptan or ammonium chloride to inhibit zinc oxide formation. Combustible gas escaping from the chamber 6 may be burnt. The particulate material may be vibrated by probes or by vibrating the zinc bath or the chamber.
