Abstract

1446408 Tyre-shredding apparatus COATS CO INC 29 Oct 1974 [25 March 1974] 46781/ 74 Heading B2A A tyre shredding machine comprises a pair of parallel contra-rotatable shafts having cutting and feeding means driven by reversible hydraulic motors 22, 24 supplied by a pump 50 and reversing means and fed by conduits 26, 28 in parallel. Pressure in the conduits is sensed by a switch 68 and when overload takes place in excess of a predetermined time the reversing means viz the pump 50 is reversed for a predetermined time determined by a delay relay 64. Flow in the conduits is limited by a valve 36 such that under no-load conditions the motor 22 runs at e.g. 42 r.p.m. while motor 24 runs at 22 r.p.m. When loaded the shafts rotate at the same speed. The pump 50 is a swashplate type operated by a linkage 60 and solenoid 62 but could be replaced by a four-way valve. During reversing the motors are driven at the same rate due to insertion of a check valve 38 in the line 26. If the pressure switch 68 fails a pressure relief valve 39 protects the system.
