Abstract
1446169 Welding fluxes BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 18 Sept 1973 [18 Sept 1972] 43100/72 Heading C7M [Also in Division B3] In a flux coated consumable electrode, for underwater welding, the flux includes by weight of the flux (excluding binder), 20-30% Mn as metal and/or in an alloy (e.g. Fe-Mn, Si-Mn), and the ratio of the coated electrode diameter to the core diameter is at least 1.6:1, e.g. 1.6 to 2.2:1. The electrode core may be rod or wire and may comprise Si-containing mild steel. The flux may include one or more of Mo, Nb, Cr, Ni, Co, Ti, Al, W and V, one or more of iron powder, an alkaline earth metal carbonate, silica, zirconia, potassium oxide, alumina, and a complex of at least two such oxides, and a silicate. Preferred fluxes include The deposited weld metal may contain 0À5- 2.5% Mn and 0À20-0À65% Si.
