Abstract
1446088 Sound playback apparatus BASF AG 29 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55311/73 Heading G5R [Also in Division H4] In a sound playback apparatus a detector 7 is responsive to a characteristic signal indicative of an interruption in the playback signal to operate a switch 6 whereby an audio and/or noise generator 8, 9 inserts a bridging signal in the gap caused by the interruption. Detector 7 may operate switch 6 in response to the recorded signal envelope level, e.g. of an angle-modulated signal, dropping below a predetermined level, or to a control signal in the recording, or in response to a torque reduction, track changing or tape drive reversal in a tape recorder or to a predetermined angular position of a pick-up arm in a disc record player. The generator 8, 9 may be a delay circuit receiving an input 5a from transducer 4, or may be a generator in which the noise spectrum of a Zener diode (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), passes through a lowpass or bandpass filter with an upper cutoff at about 1 kHz. Alternatively, the generator may be an oscillator (14), Fig. 3 (not shown), set to a state of unstable equilibrium just prior to oscillation and giving a damped oscillation when triggered, or may comprise an AM demodulator (25), Fig. 4 (not shown), a lowpass filter (26), an AM modulator (27) and a noise and/or audio generator (28), the circuit giving an output signal which is amplitude-modulated with the low-frequency signal components of the envelope of the audio signal reproduced from the record medium 3, the time constant of filter (26) being greater than or equal to the duration of the gap caused by a drop-out or by track-changing of transducer 4. In a further form of generator 8, Fig. 5 (not shown), a potential divider (29) and a filter (30) act on the noise generated in playback of an F.M. recording when the carrier signal disappears during a drop out, to produce a gap-filling noise signal.
